We understand how valuable a bicycle can be in a person’s life. Riding a bike is much more than just a hobby; it’s a way to gain independence, stay healthy, and be part of your local community. Sometimes, it’s also the only way you’re able to get to work, school, or go to the shops.

We do our best to keep the bikes we sell affordable. We also offer a 10% discount for students and a 25% discount for low-income healthcare card holders. However, we know that this is still not achievable for some. That is why we work with local organisations and support workers to provide bikes to those who would benefit from them but could not otherwise afford them.

Organisations we have worked with in the past include the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, AMES, Uniting, Vincent Care, River Nile School, Merri-Bek BUG, Wheel Sisters, Operation Newstart, Doncare, Anglicare, and many more.

If you are a support/case worker with a client whom you believe would benefit from our support, then please get in touch with us via manager@thebikeshed.org.au. Please provide the height of the rider, plus any other relevant details, so that we can prepare an appropriate bike. Once the bike is ready, we will let you know, and it can be collected from us at a suitable time. We are not generally able to offer delivery.

Please note that we require a referral from a relevant organisation or support/case worker.

As we are a small, primarily volunteer-based organisation, we thank you for your understanding that we sometimes have a limited capacity for what we can offer. This means we will not always be able to provide support, or that there may be a bit of a wait for a bike to be prepared. However, we endeavour to provide support whenever we are able.
